Vol. 100 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Westmeath Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is a fact that the remaining portion of the lands on the O'Doherty Estate, together with house thereon, situated at Williamstown, Finnea, County Westmeath, has been allocated to Captain Loftus Walker, who has already secured two parcels of land on the Hempenstall Estate; and whether the repeated representations made to the Land Commission by myself and others were taken into consideration when dealing with this matter.

The claims of all the applicants for land on the O'Doherty Estate were fully considered when the selection of the allottee for the parcels of land recently disposed of by the Land Commission was made. Captain Loftus Walker who was allotted the lands comprising 30 acres 1 rood 16 perches surrendered therefor the two parcels previously allotted to him on the Hempenstall Estate comprising an area of 28 acres 2 roods 29 perches which latter lands have been allotted to two uneconomic holders.

Is the Minister satisfied that every parcel of land previously allocated to Captain Walker has been surrendered by him?

I believe that all the land previously held by Captain Walker has been surrendered by him in exchange for the portion he has now got. I will, however, make a further inquiry in the matter and inform the Deputy.
