Vol. 100 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding in County Kerry.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the very serious damage caused by flooding arising out of the bursting recently of the banks of the River Feale, County Kerry, between Listowel Bridge and Ballyhorgan Quay; further, that the embankment has been swept away there; and if he will have this matter, of great local importance, attended to with the least possible delay.

The embankments referred to appear to be situate on the estate of the Earl of Listowel, Record Nos. E.C.995 and K.C.1128. In connection with the sale proceedings of this estate under the provisions of the Irish Land Act, 1905, a trust fund was established to assist the tenant purchasers in the repair and maintenance of embankments and other works thereon. The execution of the repairs to the works as they become necessary is a matter for the local trustees representing the tenant purchasers who are responsible for the administration of the fund. The Land Commission have not received any recent representations regarding the necessity for executing repair works.
