Vol. 101 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonmel-Cashel Telephone Service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state whether he has received representations from public bodies and others in Tipperary asking for quicker and more direct telephonic communication between Clonmel and Cashel; and if he will say what steps he proposes to take to bring about this urgently needed improvement.

I have received representations regarding the delay on calls between Clonmel and Cashel. The delay on telephone calls is due to the excessive pressure of traffic. Provision has been made in the Estimates for additional circuits which would afford relief, but so far it has not been possible, owing to the supplies position, to undertake the work. Until it is possible to have the work completed, every effort will be made to reduce delays to a minimum.

Will the Minister say if there has been any improvement in the supplies position within the last six months?

It has improved, yes.
