Vol. 101 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Land Claimant.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to give an allotment of land to James Agar, Fortgranite, Baltinglass, County Wicklow; and if he is aware that Mr. Agar's former holding at Broughalstown, Rathvilley, County Carlow, was acquired for division about ten years ago and that Mr. Agar, at that time, received a promise from the Land Commission that he would be given a holding at the first opportunity.

The holding formerly occupied by Mr. James Agar passed into the possession of a Mr. Kehoe, from whom it was resumed by the Land Commission in 1938. No promise was made to Mr. Agar that an allotment would be given him.

Is the Minister aware that a definite verbal promise was made, by the commissioner who undertook the division of these lands, to Mr. Agar in 1932 or 1933 and that the promise has not been honoured?

My information is that no promise of any kind was given to Mr. Agar. Why a promise to give Mr. Agar any land should be made in 1933, when he was then in possession of a farm of his own, I cannot understand.
