Vol. 101 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Crumlin Vocational School.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the Dublin Vocational Education Committee made proposals to his Department for the purchase of a site for a new vocational school at Crumlin in October, 1938, but that the necessary sanction has not yet been granted; if he will state the cause of the delay and whether he is now prepared to sanction the purchase of the proposed site.

In 1944 Dublin Corporation applied for approval to the sale of a site to the vocational education committee for a school at Crumlin. The proposed site is a triangular area lying between two roads, one of which is an important main road that carries heavy industrial and passenger traffic. A fortnight ago I discussed the matter with a deputation from the vocational education committee, who will consider a statement of what, in my opinion, are the disadvantages which attach to this site. If the committee, when they have considered the objections to the site both from the town planning and legal aspects, adhere to their proposal and, despite the objections I have pointed out to them, still accept responsibility for choosing this site, I shall not oppose the corporation selling it to them.
