Vol. 101 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soldiers' and Sailors' Land Trust.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is now in a position to state if the discussions concerning the implementation of the report of the Shannon Commission relating to the Soldiers' and Sailors' Land Trust houses have advanced to the stage at which he can indicate the intentions of the Government with regard to the report; and, further, whether he will state if it is intended to introduce proposals for legislation in relation to the matter during the present session.

As I have already indicated in reply to previous questions on this subject, certain discussions were initiated with the British Government. Until these discussions have progressed further I cannot hold out the hope that the Government will be in a position to make any statement on the matter.

Can the Minister say when he hopes to bring these discussions to some kind of finality?

That is a matter that is completely outside my control.
