Vol. 101 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Mayo Bog.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that, arising from a recent rearrangement scheme of the Land Commission in the Swinford area, a number of tenants who had turbary plots at Carn bog, were dispossessed; if he is further aware that there is a large tract of undeveloped bog available between the Carn and Woods bogs on which these tenants could be suitably accommodated; and if he will, accordingly, direct the Land Commission to proceed with a scheme for the development of this bog.

Certain tenants are entitled to turbary rights on Carn bog and the turbary supply now available there is sufficient for their needs only. It has become impossible, in the circumstances, to continue to accommodate other persons on this bog. Alternative turbary banks are not readily available in the district but the Land Commission are looking into the possibility of carrying out some further turbary development there.
