asked the Minister for Justice if it is his intention to arrange for the establishment of additional stations, staffed entirely by Irish-speaking members of the Gárda Síochána, in the Irish-speaking districts of West Cork and Waterford.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gárda Stations in Irish-Speaking Districts.
Mr. Boland
The only really satisfactory solution in this matter is to increase as rapidly as possible the number of Gárdaí who can speak and write Irish fluently. This object is constantly kept in view when selecting and training recruits. In the meantime, the question is one of allocating the available Irish-speaking members to areas where Irish is most required, while avoiding as far as possible undue hardship to individuals.
