Vol. 103 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerosene Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that supplies of kerosene for domestic purposes for the month of September are still undelivered in many areas in West Cork; and if he will state what further action he proposes to take in this matter.

I am not aware that supplies of kerosene for domestic purposes for September are still undelivered in many areas in West Cork but if the Deputy furnishes particulars of the areas he has in mind I will have inquiry made into the position.

Kerosene stocks have been replenished in local depôts and additional transport has been provided in West Cork which it is anticipated will enable up-to-date deliveries to be made in future.

I realise that the Minister is in a difficulty in answering the question because it does not belong to his Department. I can assure him that this whole business has developed into a serious scandal and that there ought not to be any difficulty in getting any information that the Minister requires, especially having regard to the fact that this was made the subject of a question two weeks ago and of a series of supplementary questions. All that I am asking is that the Minister would pass on the information to the Minister for Industry and Commerce and ask him to take a personal interest in the matter.

Certainly.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the difficulties experienced by owners of licensed premises, who are dependent on kerosene for lighting their premises; and if he is in a position to increase the allowance of kerosene to owners of such premises.

It is not at present possible to increase the standard allowance of kerosene granted for lighting purposes to licensed premises, which is five gallons per month during the winter season.
