Vol. 103 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price Control.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the general nature of any modification of price control which (a) has taken place since the 1st January, 1946, and (b) is intended in the near future.

It is not intended that there will be any general relaxation of price control in respect of specific articles which are now scarce until normal supply conditions again prevail. The modifications of Price Control Orders on this ground have not been many since January 1st, 1946.

Since 1945, the control of manufacturers' prices has, in general, been changed from a gross profit basis to a basis of nett profit related to output, which is regarded as more suitable in present circumstances. It is not contemplated that it will be possible to relax this form of control in the near future.
