Vol. 103 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - D.D.T. Powder and Emulsion Supplies.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether city and county managers have been ordered to ensure that supplies of D.D.T. powder and emulsion are made available in their areas; and if they have been recommended to receive such supplies from Messrs. Hygeia, Limited, Galway; further, if he will state the names of the members of the board of directors of this firm.

City and county managers have been recommended to use D.D.T. powder and emulsion in connection with the prevention and treatment of louse infestation. In this connection they were informed that supplies might be obtained from Messrs. Hygeia, Ltd., Galway. Messrs. Hygeia, Ltd., were the only firm manufacturing D.D.T. in this country. During the emergency, when supplies were urgently required, they were the only source of supply. I understand that the price charged by them for D.D.T. powder and emulsion compares favourably with that charged to local authorities in England. I was not aware of the directors' names, but since the receipt of the Deputy's Question I have ascertained that they are Messrs. Coyle, O'Malley and Costello.
