Vol. 103 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharge of Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that road men, employed by the Dublin County Council, who have reached the age of 70 years have had their services dispensed with; and if he will ask the Commissioner for the Dublin County Council to re-employ these men pending the enactment of the Superannuation Bill for employees of local authorities or, if in the event of these men not being re-employed, he will insert a provision in the Superannuation Bill covering employees of local authorities who have recently been dismissed on reaching the age of 70.

I have been informed by the commissioner acting for the Dublin County Council that the services of a number of employees who had reached the age of 70 years have recently been dispensed with.

I am in communication with the commissioner in regard to the matter with the object of finding a satisfactory solution.
