Vol. 103 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Paper Money.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in respect of each year since 1932, how many (a) bank notes, (b) consolidated bank notes, (c) legal tender notes, and (d) other forms of paper money, have been printed for use in Éire by or on behalf of or on the authority of the Government, the Central Bank of Ireland or the associated banks; further, in respect of the same years, the number of notes of each of the above categories (a), (b), and (c) which were reprinted in replacement of notes lost, or otherwise destroyed; and also where the printing of such notes is done.

Details of the issues and redemptions of legal tender notes, according to the several denominations, may be found in the weekly return which is published in Iris Oifigiúil and in the annual statement on this subject appended to the published reports of the Central Bank and Currency Commission. Details of the amount of Consolidated Bank notes are published in Iris Oifigiúil every four weeks, and similar particulars in regard to these notes are available in the Annual Report of the Central Bank. I understand that both legal tender notes and Consolidated Bank notes have been printed abroad since and before 1932.
