Vol. 103 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Offaly Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he has received repeated representations during the past five years from Deputies for the constituency, as well as from the large number of small holders, cottage tenants, Old I.R.A. and landless men in the area relative to the estate of Mr. M. Moore, Lumville, Edenderry, Offaly, asking when these lands would be acquired for division amongst those deserving people for the relief of congestion; and if he will now state what action, if any, has already been taken to acquire the estate, and when the lands are likely to be divided.

Mr. Boland

Representations have been made to the Land Commission for the resumption of the holding of Mr. Mathias Moore in the townland of Lumville, and, as stated already in reply to a similar question, these representations have been noted for attention in due course.

In view of the very great congestion that exists in this part of Offaly, will the Minister request his colleague, the Minister for Lands, to give prior consideration to this case? Further, in view of the number of cottage tenants residing in the area who find it impossible to secure grazing, even for one cow, will he make some effort to remedy the position?
