Vol. 103 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare National School.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory condition of the national school at Derrinturn, Carbury, County Kildare; if he will state if it is proposed to provide a new school, located in a position most suitable for local school-going children there; and if so, when.

I am aware of the unsatisfactory condition of the Derrinturn boys' and girls' national schools and of the need for their replacement.

Plans for new schools were prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works but, owing to an increase in the attendance, it became necessary to provide more extensive accommodation. This has involved the preparation of fresh plans and every effort is being made to have the new buildings erected as soon as possible.

Will the Minister say whether any contract for the erection of the buildings has been placed?

No, not yet.
