Vol. 104 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharge of Reservists.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that members of Defence Forces on the reserve are not permitted to go to England to take up employment; and if he will consider granting persons, who desire to avail themselves of employment available in England, their complete discharge so that they may earn their living there; alternatively, whether he will arrange for the provision of suitable employment for them at once, in view of their circumstances brought about by unemployment.

Under Defence Force Regulations permission may be granted to members of the Defence Forces on the Reserve to reside in England. I am aware that persons who have not secured such permission are unable to obtain a travel permit to enable them to go to England to take up employment. In normal circumstances, however, the military authorities do not refuse permission to reservists to reside in England, and the other parts of the Deputy's question do not, therefore, arise.
