Vol. 105 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Treatment of Tubercular Patient.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that Mrs. Ellen Doyle of 5 Jamestown Road, Finglas, who has recently returned home from Newcastle Sanatorium, after six months' treatment, has been deprived of her vouchers for eggs, butter and milk, and has also been refused bed clothes and a tuberculosis hut, although she was recommended for same; further, that nourishment and clothes are more urgently required by Mrs. Doyle now than heretofore; and if he will state the circumstances in which these facilities are withheld from Mrs. Doyle.

The issue of food vouchers, clothing, bed and bedding under approved domiciliary welfare schemes for tuberculous persons is a matter for the local authority concerned and particulars of individual cases coming within the scope of the schemes do not normally come before my Department. I am informed, however, that in the case mentioned by the Deputy the issue of food vouchers was deferred pending investigation of the benefits already afforded to her family. These investigations have been completed and the patient is now in receipt of food vouchers. Arrangements have also been made to supply bed and bedding. The application for a hut is being examined by the local authority.
