Supplementary Estimates. - Vote 35—District Court.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £3,000 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1948, for such of the salaries and expenses of the District Court as are not charged on the Central Fund (7 Edw. 7, c. 17, s. 3. No. 27 of 1926 ss. 49, 50 and 66. No. 15 of 1928 s. 13. No. 48 of 1936 ss. 51 and 77 and No. 21 of 1926) and for the Capitation Grant.

The sum required under sub-head A comprises £1,500 to meet the increase in salaries granted to District Court clerks under a reorganisation put into operation during the year whereby the several offices were graded and appropriate scales of salary fixed for each grade.

Under sub-head B a further sum of £1,500 is required to provide for the increase in the rates of mileage granted following the revision of the travelling allowances by the Department of Finance, and also an increase in the rates of subsistence and commuted allowances applicable to district justices and District Court clerks.
