Vol. 111 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claremorris Farms.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps he has taken to acquire the farm of Mr. Michael Begley, Facefield, Claremorris, for the relief of local congestion.

The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of the lands of Facefield owned by Michael Begley. The case has presented some unusual features and difficulties and as a consequence proceedings have been very protracted. The Land Commission are not at present in a position to state if or when these lands will be acquired.

Am I to understand, Sir, or will the Minister give me an assurance, that he will ask the commissioners to try to hurry up these proceedings because they have been carried on now for almost 15 years and should be settled one way or the other.

The Land Commission are anxious to acquire those lands; that is the first thing. But there are peculiar difficulties in this particular case that will take some time to overcome.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will initiate proceedings to acquire portion of the large farm of Mr. John Kennedy, Brize, Claremorris, County Mayo, for distribution amongst local small landholders.

The question of the acquisition of portion of the lands held by Mr. John Kennedy, Brize, Claremorris, is under consideration by the Land Commission.
