Vol. 111 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claremorris Racecourse.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Claremorris racecourse, containing approximately 75 acres, is at present derelict; and, if so, whether he will take steps to have it acquired for distribution amongst the small landholders of the area.

This field containing 64 acres 2 roods 28 perches was given on the 28th March, 1922, to the people of the town of Claremorris for grazing for their cows, etc., to be administered by a board of local trustees. The Land Commission have no information regarding the present user of the Claremorris racecourse and I do not propose to ask the commissioners to acquire it unless the trustees, on behalf of the townspeople of Claremorris, wish to surrender it.

Owing to the unsatisfactory nature of the reply to Question 22, with your permission, I will raise the matter on the adjournment to-night.

Mr. A. Byrne

I gave notice yesterday that I would raise the question of the bakers' dispute to-night and I think it is more urgent in view of the hardships which are being created.

That is for the Chair to judge, but a Deputy cannot on one day prejudice the rights of any Deputy on the following day unless he postpones his question at a Minister's request. In this case that is so, so I am allowing Deputy Byrne to raise his question as he had to forgo his claim yesterday.

Mr. A. Byrne

Maybe the Minister thinks it inadvisable that it should be raised to-night. I am most anxious to facilitate the Minister at all times, and I will leave myself in the hands of the Minister. If he thinks that it would not be advisable to raise the question of the bakers' dispute, I will give way to Deputy Dunne.

I should like to say that I appreciate the spirit in which Deputy Byrne has made the suggestion. I do not understand the sneers with which it was received. I would, however, suggest to Deputy Byrne that it would not be helpful if the matter were raised to-night and therefore I would ask him to forgo raising it.

Then the matter raised by Deputy Dunne will be taken on the adjournment.

This Independent Deputy has stated that he is in your hands completely.

I hope Deputy MacEntee will never be in my hands completely.

The matter will be considered to-morrow, Deputy Byrne.
