Vol. 111 No. 2

Order of Business.

The business will be taken in the following order: No. 3 (Votes 52 to 54 and Vote 41). It is proposed that consideration of Government Business be not interrupted at the time fixed for taking Private Members' Business.

We got very little notice that the Government intend to take Vote 41 after Votes 52 to 54. I suggest that the notice is very short in relation to Vote 41. I wonder is there any other Vote which could be taken before that. Previously, it was customary to try to give at least a week's notice of these Votes.

I think it will hardly be likely that the Local Government Estimate will be reached to-day. While I appreciate that Deputies require some notice of Estimates of this kind, nevertheless we must take into consideration the peculiar circumstances of this particular session.

I know they are exceptional. Perhaps after the Minister has made his statement, the Government would consider whether it might not be taken to-morrow.

If the Deputy wishes, we will consider that. I imagine, however, that the Deputy knows all about the Department of Local Government.

I submit to the Taoiseach that, after all, I am not the only Deputy who is interested in local government, and other Deputies who have not my advantages might want to intervene.

I am sorry to hear that the Deputy intends to curtail himself on the Vote.
