Vol. 111 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shops Order, 1947.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the great loss of business to many small traders in Clonmel, by reason of the provisions of the Shops (Hours of Trading) Order, 1947; and, if so, whether he will consider revoking the Order in so far as it applies to ice cream and sweet shops, in view of the great hardship which the Order imposes on them.

The closing hours complained of have been in operation for the past seven years and apply generally throughout the country.

Before the 1947 Order was made the statutory notice of intention to make such an Order was published and no representations were then made by any of the classes of traders referred to.

I see no necessity to amend the Order on the lines suggested.
