Vol. 111 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Workers' Flour Ration.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will grant an increase in the flour ration to agricultural workers who have to take this food with them in the course of their employment.

Agricultural workers are eligible to receive supplementary allowances of bread and flour provided they reside not less than two miles from their place of employment and receive no bread meals from their employers and are unable to return home for their midday meal. The supplementary allowance in such cases is equivalent to 3 lbs. of bread or 2¼ lbs. of flour or 2½ lbs. of wheatenmeal.

Owing to the uncertainty of the wheat supply position, I am unable to extend the scheme of supplementary allowances to include other classes of agricultural workers at present.
