Vol. 111 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford-Dungarvan Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will direct Córas Iompair Éireann to (a) restore the midday and evening bus services between Waterford and Dungarvan via Kilmacthomas on Tuesdays and Fridays; and (b) ensure an earlier arrival of the 1.45 p.m. bus in Waterford or a later departure from there of the evening bus so as to permit of a more reasonable shopping period in the city for shoppers making use of the bus service.

Córas Iompair Éireann inform me that when their vehicle position improves they will consider the needs of this and other areas where there is a demand for additional bus services. The company state that the bus service between Waterford and Dungarvan is diverted via Bonmahon for one run in each direction on Tuesdays and Fridays. This is done to provide some transport facilities for people in the Bonmahon area pending the restoration of full services on these routes. There is a stay of three and a half hours in Waterford. I understand that the proposed alteration in the time-table would adversely affect the interests of other users of the service.
