Vol. 112 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Piping for Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the quantity of piping used during the past 12 months in providing a water supply at holiday camps and luxury hotels; (b) whether representations have been made to his Department for a supply of piping for the Donnybrooke, Douglas, County Cork, water supply scheme; and, if so, whether in view of the very urgent need for a water supply for domestic and sanitary purposes in this area, he will take steps to see that sufficient piping is made available for this purpose.

I am not in possession of the information asked for in the first part of the question.

The water supply scheme referred to in the second part of the question was included in an extensive list of such schemes furnished by the Minister for Local Government in response to my inquiries in the matter. I should point out, however, that I do not control the distribution of water piping, and action by me can be taken only on the basis of supplies generally and not in relation to any particular scheme. I am taking all possible steps to obtain an increase in the over-all supply of water piping, but I am unable to undertake that any supply can be made available for the particular scheme referred to.
