asked the Minister for Health whether, in view of the fact that some 400 persons living in Donny-brooke village and district at Douglas, County Cork, a confined area within two and a half miles of the centre of Cork City, have no water supply for drinking or sanitary purposes and have not even a public pump or tap in the village, he will state what precautions officers of his Department are taking to ensure that there is not an outbreak of disease in the area.

I am informed that the water supply to Donnybrooke village is provided by a spring well and that it is inadequate. The primary responsibility for taking precautionary measures against an outbreak of infectious disease in the district rests with the Cork County Council as the local health authority.
I am assured that the potential danger to public health occasioned by the inadequacy of the water supply is fully appreciated by the local authority and the county medical officer of health and that the position is kept under constant review.
I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to him by the Minister for Local Government regarding the steps being taken to provide a proper water supply for the district.
