Employment on the special schemes for former turf workers is confined to persons who were engaged on hand-won turf production either by local authorities or Bord na Móna in 1947. Local authorities were asked to prepare schemes accordingly. Kerry County Council found that there was no need for such a scheme for North Kerry.
