Permits under the Cereals Order, 1948, have been issued to 203 seed wheat assemblers for the assembly of 450,000 barrels of seed wheat. Arrangements are also being made whereby flour millers will build up reserves of wheat of high germination against any shortage of seed towards the end of the season.
In addition, it is expected that imports of seed wheat will amount to between 60,000 and 80,000 barrels. Farmers intending to grow wheat in 1949 are advised to book their seed requirements as soon as possible.
