Vol. 113 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the undue delay which has taken place in completing the plans for the carrying through of the urgent housing scheme for Caherciveen, he will take steps to ensure that the scheme is commenced at the earliest possible date.

Mr. Murphy

No proposals in regard to the Caherciveen housing scheme have yet been submitted to the Department. I understand, however, that the matter is being treated as one of urgency and that arrangements for the acquisition of the site are being pressed forward. No delay will occur in the examination of the proposals when submitted to the Department.

Mr. Flynn

Is the Minister aware that the county manager stated at a meeting of the county council that he was suggesting or recommending that a compulsory acquisition order be put through by the Department for a housing site in Caherciveen?

Mr. Murphy

I am not aware of that, but in fact a proposal of that kind would of course be necessary. What I am aware of is that no definite proposals have yet been received in the Department.
