Vol. 113 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Caherciveen New Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health whether, in view of the undue delay which has taken place in completing the plans for the erection of a new hospital at Caherciveen, he will take steps to ensure that the scheme is commenced at an early date.

The detailed schedule of accommodation for the proposed hospital at Caherciveen, which was received in my Department on 25th October, is at present under examination and I expect that I will be able to convey my views on this document to the local authority shortly. I share the Deputy's anxiety to see that planning is completed and work started on this project with the least possible delay. Considering, however, the many years of service which the new hospital may be expected to give it is important that the plans should be carefully examined at every stage to see that the hospital will be built, and can be run, economically. I can assure the Deputy that the examination of the plans in my Department will be carried out as quickly as possible.
