asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what steps are been taken by his Department to provide farm machinery on hire-purchase terms as promised by him in the Dáil.

I stated in my reply on the 20th July last to a question put to me by the Deputy that the possibility of developing hire-purchase facilities for the purchase of farm machinery was being examined. From the information at present available to me it appears that loan facilities can be provided for this purpose by the Agricultural Credit Corporation which will compare favourably with the best hire-purchase terms that can be arranged. The matter is, however, still under examination and if in the meantime any person desires to avail of credit facilities for the purchase of machinery he should get in touch with the Agricultural Credit Corporation and if it appears that satisfactory arrangements cannot be made, I shall be glad to discuss any difficulties that may arise with Deputy Cogan or any other Deputy who may be interested in the matter.
