Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement of Kerry Pier.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that engineers inspected the Reenard Point Pier, Cahirciveen, County Kerry, about six months ago with a view to its improvement and extension to cater for the present-day needs of fishermen and of the residents of Valentia Island; and if he will state whether the plans and estimates for the work have yet been prepared and sanctioned, and when the work is likely to be commenced.

A meeting of representatives of the Kerry County Council, the Department of Agriculture and the Sea Fisheries Association, with an engineer of the Commissioners of Public Works, took place at Reenard Point in June last to examine whether an improvement scheme to meet local requirements could be designed within a reasonable limit of cost. The engineer's report will be available shortly, but until it has been fully examined I cannot say what decision may be taken.
