Vol. 113 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state when unemployment benefit will be paid to workers who have returned from England to this country, with British unemployment stamps to their credit, or what is the present position in this matter.

It is not possible to indicate the date from which unemployment benefit in respect of contributions paid in Great Britain will become payable to workers who have returned from employment there. The position is that a basis for reciprocity in unemployment insurance has been agreed between my Department and the British Ministry of National Insurance, and a draft of a formal agreement is at present being prepared.

I hope that the agreement will shortly be signed, and the Deputy may rest assured that it will be implemented as speedily as possible.
