Vol. 114 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Allowances.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give early consideration to the desirability of introducing proposals for the amendment of the Children's Allowances Act in order to provide for the payment of an allowance of 5/- per child and for the allowance to be payable in respect of each child under 16 years of age.

Consideration has been given and will continue to be given to the desirability of introducing proposals for the amendment of the Children's Allowances Act. The Deputy will appreciate, however, that any such proposals must be considered in relation to the general scheme of social insurance at present under consideration by my Department and to the increased cost to the State which the introduction of such proposals would entail.
