Vol. 118 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redress for Deportation.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state whether he has taken any steps to claim or obtain redress or compensation for Mr. Thomas Neanon of 40 Bayview Avenue, North Strand, Dublin, who was deported from England in the year 1939; and whether he has taken the matter up with the British authorities with a view to the cancellation of the order of deportation made by them in regard to Mr. Neanon.

Representations have been made to the British authorities about this case on three separate occasions but they were not successful.

The real difficulty is that there is a conflict of testimony on the facts. In particular, the British authorities do not admit Mr. Neanon's claim that he was resident in Britain for more than 20 years prior to his deportation in 1939. As Mr. Neanon has already been informed, however, if further evidence on this point can be adduced, the question of the revocation of the order made against him can be reopened.
