Vol. 118 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Servants' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of retired civil servants (a) who are in receipt of pensions of 30/- or less per week, and (b) who were retired for health reasons before reaching the age limit and are now in receipt of pensions of £2 or less per week; whether he proposes to give special consideration to these classes, and whether he proposes to introduce proposals for legislation to amend the pensions Acts, so that those who retire for health reasons before reaching the age limit will receive two-thirds of their salary and emoluments for each year of service.

The number of retired civil servants who are in receipt of pensions of 30/- a week or less is 200. As no special records are kept of pensioners retired for health reasons before reaching the age limit the number of such pensioners who are in receipt of pensions of £2 or less per week could not readily be ascertained. The reply to the remainder of the Deputy's question is in the negative.
