Vol. 118 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport for Schoolchildren.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether representations have been made to him to arrange transport for the children of the O'Sullivan family of Whiddy Island, County Cork, to the nearest national school; and, if so, whether he will state his decision thereon.

No representations have been made to me for the provision of a transport service for the children of the O'Sullivan family, Whiddy Island, in order to enable them to attend school on the mainland. According to the information at my disposal there are now two children of school-going age in this family, and a grant in aid of the provision of a boat service for so small a number is not permissible. A grant towards the cost of maintaining the children on the mainland for the purpose of attending a national school thereon is available, and will be paid on application. Mrs. O'Sullivan was advised accordingly.
