Vol. 118 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Cahirciveen Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that the consultant architect's revised estimate for the Cahirciveen hospital is £124,775, the original estimate being £78,000, and whether he is in a position to state the cause of the increase.

I understand from Press reports that a revised estimate of the magnitude mentioned was submitted to the Kerry County Council at a recent meeting. I have, so far, received no official notice of this and I am unable therefore to give the information requested.

Is the Minister aware that the Kerry County Council believed that, as a result of this increased estimate, an operating theatre would be provided, and they now find that it is to be only what is described as a local surgery for minor cases? We believe that this increased estimate is out of all proportion to the benefits which will accrue from this proposed new plan.

As I said in my reply to the Deputy's question, I have received no official notice of the size of the estimate or what it includes, so that I am not in a position to discuss it at the moment.
