Vol. 402 No. 8

Written Answers - Higher Education Grants.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

126 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if she will give consideration to situations where a family already has a child in higher education who is not receiving a maintenance grant that the standard official cost of maintenance of the first child be deducted from the parents income before deciding on the eligibility of the second child for grants.

The terms and operation of the higher education and related grants schemes are subject to annual review. The question of adjusting income eligibility limits to take account of cases where more than one member of a family is concurrently seeking third level funding will be considered in the context of the 1991 review having regard to, among other things, the availability of Exchequer resources to support the additional expenditure to which the proposal would give rise.
