Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Accommodation in Dún Laoghaire Area.

Mr. Brady

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether his attention has been drawn to the necessity for school accommodation for children in the Monkstown Farm area of Dún Laoghaire, and if he will state whether it is proposed to provide such accommodation in the near future.

The question of the necessity for the provision of extra school accommodation for children resident in the Monkstown Farm area was considered in June, 1948 and as a result of inquiries then made it was found that there was sufficient accommodation in existing schools in the locality for the senior children from this area within reasonable distance of their homes. As regards the younger children, the accommodation available for infants in the nearest suitable school is inadequate, and the question of providing additional classroom accommodation has been taken up with the manager.

In view, however, of the continued building activity in the Dún Laoghaire district generally, I am having further investigation made as to the requirements of the area in the matter of school accommodation.
