Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of County Kerry Road.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (1) why a grant was not allocated during the current financial year for the much-needed repair of the Baslicon accommodation road, Derrynane E.D., Waterville, County Kerry; (2) whether the claim for a grant for this road will be favourably considered when allocations are being made in the coming year.

(1) I should point out to the Deputy that I have no duty or responsibility in the matter of providing or repairing roads, except to the extent to which a particular proposal may from a suitable subject for an unemployment relief scheme, and is at the same time the most suitable proposal put forward for that purpose for the area in which it is situated. The scheme referred to by the Deputy does not at present fulfil the latter condition. (2) The case will be considered in the coming year on its merits as compared with other proposals for employment schemes in the same area.
