asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of additional beds in hospitals of all kinds provided in each of the years 1940 to 1947.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Beds.
As the information requested is partly in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, a Chinn Chomhairle, that it should be circulated with the Official Report.
Following is the statement:—
The number of additional beds provided in hospitals of all kinds (including mental hospitals and infirmary sections of county homes) in each of the years 1940 to 1947 was as follows:—
1940 |
233 beds |
1941 |
38 ,, |
1942 |
1,016 ,, (including 823 Mental Hospital beds). |
1943 |
152 ,, |
1944 |
423 ,, |
1945 |
568 beds and 17 cots |
1946 |
80 ,, |
1947 |
147 ,, and 10 cots |
I should add that during these years in the case of certain hospitals there was a decline in the number of beds and in order to determine the net position the deductions should be set off against the increases. The figures for the reductions in the numbers of beds for these years are:—
1940 |
34 beds |
1941 |
46 beds |
1942 |
125 beds |
1943 |
64 beds and 1 cot |
1944 |
18 beds |
1945 |
19 beds |
1946 |
22 beds |
1947 |
69 beds |
