Vol. 119 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the acute congestion in the Creggs area, County Galway; and, if so, whether he will request the Land Commission to acquire the farm of Mr. Satchell of Creggs, which comprises 700 to 800 acres, for the relief of this congestion.

The Land Commission are aware of the congestion in this area and are taking steps to ease it.

Can the Minister explain why the Land Commission failed to divide this land, in view of the fact that the people concerned have been looking for division for over 24 years?

I cannot.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the lands formerly held by Mr. Edward Goggin, Liebaleaha, The Glen, County Kerry, are in the hands of the Land Commission for the past nine years, and whether, in view of the congestion in that district, he will request the Land Commission to take immediate steps to divide the lands in question.

It is expected that the lands in question will be allotted this year.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when the Land Commission propose to divide the Fitzmaurice estate, comprising three farms, in Aughrim, Lisaville and Carrownagheragh, for the purpose of relieving the acute congestion which obtains in the locality.

It is not at present possible to state when these lands will be allotted, but everything is now ready for scheme preparation.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when the Land Commission propose to divide the Southpark estate, Castlerea.

I presume this question refers to the lands of Southpark demesne which are in the possession of the Land Commission. The Land Commission expect to be in a position to allot the lands this year.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission intend to acquire the land (approximately 100 acres) of Mr. Collins, Coolmeen House, Fuerty, Roscommon, for the relief of congestion in the area.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

Is the Minister aware that this particular farm of land is now up for sale and would he take steps to see that the Land Commission would acquire it for the relief of congestion, in view of the fact that it might pass into other hands and after that the people would lose all hope of its being acquired?

I am not aware of it. If they are vested lands, the owner can sell without making reference to the Land Commission, but I will have the Deputy's remarks conveyed to the commissioners.
