Vol. 119 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acht na dTithe (Gaeltacht).

D'fhiafraigh

den Aire Tailte an feasach dó go bhfuil athrú le deireannas ar oibriú Acht na dTithe (Gaeltacht) mar go gcaitheann na hiarratasóirí féin na habhair tógála d'ordú ó na soláthróirí; go n-iarrann siadsan ar na hiarratasóirí céad punt d'airgead síos d'íoc sul a soláthraíonn siad aon abhar dóibh; nach féidir leis na hiarratasóirí an méid sin airgid d'íoc roimh an deontas d'fháil agus go bhfuil an tAcht lochtach de bharr an athruithe sin agus gur bac é ar chuspóirí an Achta a thabhairt chun críche agus, más amhlaidh atá, an ndéanfaidh sé pé bearta is gá chun an socrú a bhíodh ann a thabhairt i bhfeidhm arís.

There has been no change in the mode of operation of the Housing (Gaeltacht) Acts. The provisions of the Acts while generally facilitating the supplying of materials to grantees, do not regulate the credit arrangements to be made. I am having inquiries made as to the difficulty mentioned by the Deputy.

Is the Minister aware that his Department used to order the supplies for the builder and that that practice has been stopped recently?

The Deputy's way of putting it is not quite correct. That system has not been altered but we have failed to get a supplier for County Galway. While we have supplies for three other counties who operate in the same way as under the old Acts, nobody has tendered for supplies from the Deputy's county. That is the trouble.

Would the Minister consider getting a supplier elsewhere than in Galway?

We are working on that, as a matter of fact.
