Vol. 119 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether, and when, the Electricity Supply Board intend to put the rural electrification scheme into operation in the East Muskery district, County Cork.

I assume the district to which the Deputy refers is that which extends from Blarney in the east to Macroom in the west and from Crookstown in the south to Rylane in the north. I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the areas of Inniscarra and Coachford, included in this district, have already been supplied and that the areas of Cloughduv, Grenagh and Donoughmore have been investigated, but the returns have not been sufficiently high to ensure selection so far. I am also informed that it is proposed to re-canvass the Cloughduv area in the near future and if there should be a significant improvement in the canvass return, this area may have a chance of early selection. It appears that the returns from the two other areas of Grenagh and Donoughmore have been so bad as to render their chances of selection, on a fresh canvass, unlikely.
