The bulk of the turf produced by Bord na Móna on the Cahirciveen bogs in 1948 and 1949 remains unsold, owing to the difficulty experienced in finding local markets where it could be disposed of economically. Nearly 4,500 tons of turf were produced on these bogs in the seasons of 1948 and 1949 and of this quantity, less than 1,300 tons had been sold by mid-February, 1950. Consequently, Bord na Móna propose to cease production on these bogs.
