Vol. 119 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephones for South Kerry Post Offices

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is now in a position to state when telephones are likely to be installed in the rural sub-post offices in South Kerry about which representations have frequently been made during the past two years.

Telephone call offices will be provided in post offices in the South Kerry area as part of the scheme to provide telephone facilities at all post offices. Work is now being resumed on this scheme which has been in abeyance for some time past owing to pressure of more urgent work. There are approximately 800 post offices to be dealt with in the country as a whole and the order of priority must be determined mainly on engineering considerations. I regret it is not possible to say at present when call offices will be installed in post offices in the South Kerry area.
