Complaints have been made to me that there is a shortage of sheep pelts for tanning and I am at present considering whether exports of sheep pelts should not be further restricted.
The shortage appears to be due partly to a reduction in the past few years in the home kill of sheep and partly to the increased demand arising out of extensions of the capacity for tanning sheep pelts.
