Vol. 119 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Asbestos Water Mains.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that Killarney Urban District Council are experiencing delays of up to 12 months in obtaining delivery of asbestos water mains; and, if so, whether he will consider taking steps to have established in Killarney a factory for the manufacture of these mains.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will afford the necessary facilities and give all possible information which may be necessary for the success of the proposal to erect in Killarney a factory for the manufacture of asbestos water pipes.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I will take Questions Nos. 23 and 24 together.

I am aware that delays are being experienced in obtaining deliveries of asbestos water mains.

The general question of having asbestos pressure pipes manufactured in this country is under consideration. Such an industry would be sponsored by private enterprise and the persons proposing to invest their capital in the undertaking would, of course, have views as to the most suitable location.
