Vol. 119 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Cork Sites' Committee.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for the supplemental compulsory purchase order in the South Cork public health area and whether it was ensured that sufficient care was given by the sites' committee in the selection of sites.

So far as I am aware, no compulsory purchase order has yet been made by the local authority in respect of cottage sites in the South Cork health district since the South Cork County Health District (Compulsory Purchase) Order, 1948. Presumably such an order would be made with a view to obtaining additional sites for the erection of labourers cottages to meet the housing needs of the area.

In view of the judicial nature of the functions vested in the Minister for Local Government in connection with compulsory purchase orders, I could not comment at present on a matter such as that raised in the second part of the Deputy's question.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether the architects to the South Cork Public Health Committee have at all times been accompanied by members of the South Cork Sites' Committee when selecting sites.

I am unable to state whether the architects to the committee have at all times been accompanied by members of the South Cork Sites' Committee when examining possible sites for labourers' cottages. I have, however, been informed that no site is recommended to the local authority for selection without prior reference to the sites' committee.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (1) whether the alternative site selected by the South Cork Public Health Sites' Committee has been approved, and (2) the reason for the rejection of the original site.

The information which, it is understood, the Deputy requires is not yet available. If however the Deputy will repeat the question on Tuesday next I hope to be in a position to give him the information.
